HMS Zinnia was ordered by France at Smith’s Dock shipyard in Middlesboro on 31.08.1938 and received the manufacturer’s number J4034. The construction of the ship took 7 and a half months. She was equipped with armament enabling attacks on submarines, defence against air raids and trawling minefields. In her short service, the ship conducted operations minesweeping port entrances, and saved 3 castaways from Cape Rodney sunk by U-75 on 5.08.1941.

This was the first Mirage kit I have built. The smaller pieces lacked much detail and the depth charge racks were not that impressive and did not fit very well. The kit seemed to be an accurate portrayal of the Zinnia and I changed it to a later class one (HMS Heather). The directions weren't bad. The quality is below that of Tamiya or Trumpeter destroyer kits.
