C3 class submarine with 5 'piggy-back' mounted Type 1 human-piloted
Kaiten torpedoes. Represents I-53 as configured for the 9th Kaiten
sortie, July-August 1945. Kit features 4-piece full hull with screw
reinforced construction (plastic parts conceal all screw heads), raised
weld seams, deeply recessed limber holes and separately molded bilge
keels. Additionally, the 2-piece deck has wood plank texture and
separately molded hatches and gratings; conning tower is fitted with
full array of periscopes, snorkel, antennae plus metal details
(railings, rungs, eyelets and vertical ladder); and Kaiten torpedoes
have individually molded crew hatches and twin screws. Also includes
display cradle, wire for signal mast stays, pre-mounted printed paper
ensign on metal flagstaff, vinyl torpedo deck mounting straps and
self-adhesive tower identification panels. Includes painting and
weathering suggestions; completed model is approximately 60.9" long.
